12 years and up. Often described as a graceful combination of ballet and jazz, lyrical takes on the strength and technique learned in ballet class and combines it with the style and expressiveness of jazz. Dancers learn to use their bodies to interpret and express the feeling of their music. This is a beautiful style to watch and rewarding for the dancer to perform.
It is highly recommended to also take a ballet or jazz class in conjunction to lyrical
Contemporary dance is characterized by its diversity: contemporary can be danced to almost any style of music, or united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement. It is an extremely expressive and creative form of dance. Contemporary seeks to work with the natural alignment of the body, and is therefore accessible for all dancers. At the same time, the ease of movement promoted by contemporary dance technique allows experienced dancers to push their boundaries and discover new ways of moving.
For dancers 12 years and up. We highly recommend ballet or jazz in conjunction with contemporary.
Twinkle Star Dance is designed to give the most structure and fun possible to preschool dance classes.
The four pillars of the Twinkle Star Dance Program are Skill Building, Centre Movement, Just For Fun, and Showtime. Together they form the foundation of exceptional dance training and the developmental benefits go far beyond the dance studio.
Skill Building is the essential base that all dancers need when they start out. They continue to fine-tune these skills throughout their dance life.
Centre movement builds on all the skills they’ve been learning. Centre combinations are taught and practiced. They can really start to dance and move together as a core of tiny dancers. Centre Movement is key to experience before they begin to learn choreography for the recital. The dancers get a taste of performance before the big show.
Children love coming back for more thanks to Just For Fun activities and storylines. Never forget that dancing is supposed to be fun!
Showtime is designed to combine the Skill Building, Centre Movement, and Just For Fun activities into the dance they perform on stage. Performing in the recital is a critical part of the dance curriculum…dance is a performing art! Learning to conquer your fears, work hard for something over time, and be in front of people are lifelong skills made possible by the Twinkle Star Dance curriculum.
Twinkle Babies and Twinkle Tots are half hour classes introducing movement and music to toddlers. Twinkle Babies requires a parent. The secret to the class is that it is structured and fun! It contains ballet and creative movement. Young dancers steps while learning how to follow direction and imitate movement in a positive environment. Engaging music is used to get these little dancers inspired to dance. The use of props such as “dancing bears,” hula hoops and maracas, enables the young dancers to use their imagination, creativity and, most of all, have fun. Twinkle Tots is a higher level and the children participate with no parent involvement.
Twinkle Toes is a dance class for 3 and 4 year olds introducing the basics of ballet, coordination and rhythm through creative movement and song and dance. Each class meets the needs of the 3 and 4 year olds development. We take childhood experiences and apply them to movement. For example, we use butterflies to teach running like a ballet dancer or bunnies for hopping. Using small props keeps the dancer both engaged and curious. It is a fun filled half hour class.
TWINKLE STAR 1- 4 and 5 years AND TWINKLE STAR 2 - 5 and 6 years
Twinkle Star 1 (4/5 year olds) and Twinkle Star 2 (5/6 year olds) are special classes offering the students the opportunity to explore and understand three type of dance at one cost and one trip to the studio. Each week the dancers are exposed to ballet, jazz and tap.
An age specific containing ballet, tap and jazz/creative movement. The purpose of the class is to introduce young dancers to the three styles of dance and inspire movement and creativity within a positive environment. Dancers will also learn basic steps and terminology in all three styles. For example, all dancers will learn what a “plie” is and how to demonstrate one. The use of fun, age appropriate music engages the young dancers’ minds and bodies. The use of props such as hula hoops for the “freeze dance” makes the end of class the most fun! Placement Notes: 4 year olds must have complete Twinkle Toes before starting Twinkle Star 1 and 5 year olds must have complete Twinkle Star 1 before entering Twinkle Star 2.
Our Twinkle Star 1 classes perform a ballet and tap routine in our Spring Showcase while Twinkle Star 2 classes perform a ballet, jazz and tap routine. It involves one costume.
Twinkle Tumblers is a pre-acro class for dancers participating in Twinkle Star 2
We have an optional pre-acro class which follows our Saturday and Sunday Twinkle Star 2 classes. It is 30 minutes of stretch, strength, limbering and tumbling down the mats.
