BIOGRAPHY JACQUI

Jacqui is a working arts educator and choreographer from the Greater Toronto Area. She spent most of her childhood growing up at JSOD and now currently works full-time as a dance teacher/choreographer at the studio. She recently attended York University for her Masters Degree in Dance Education. Jacqui is currently training with Paula Morgan and is in the certification process.

Jacqui is a trained dancer in contemporary, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, tap, acro, and hip-hop. She is also a graduate of Queen's University with a degree in Cultural History and Gender Studies, and holds a Bachelor of Education with a focus in Community Arts. Jacqui is well-recognized as an emerging choreographer and arts educator in her field. She is the former artistic director of Exposed Dance Initiative and most recently, was one of twenty finalists chosen to showcase their work in New York City at the Capezio ACE Awards for Choreographic Excellence. Her work is innovative, exciting, and she consistently challenges herself to bring something new to the stage. Her work has been awarded numerous choreography awards, including Best Choreography of the Competition at four of five competitions in the 2012 season.

Jacqui has a great deal of experience as an educator. She is presently the dance director for the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre's Secondary Arts program. She has taught dance and drama through the Limestone District School Board, run freelance dance workshops throughout Ontario and has worked as a Canadian tour director for Explorica, a student travel company.

Jacqui believes that art has the ability to empower children to gain confidence and speak their mind. Art gives children an opportunity to be who they want to be and take pride in their individuality. Jacqui has committed herself to spending a lifetime in the field of arts education and looks forward to working with each and every young dancer that crosses her path.
